I run marathons, so safe to say I won't be the most impartial person in the world about the benefits running marathons has on the human brain.
However, there is actually plenty of evidence to suggest that marathon running can help improve brain function by increasing, BDNF production and neurogenesis. Endurance running has also been found to enhance communication between different parts of the human brain.
In this video, I explain the benefits of running long distances and come up with some possible explanations why marathon running may (potentially) be the best exercise you can do to protect and improve brain function!
Have I done a good enough job convincing you to put your sneakers (or trainers) on and start training for a marathon?
