Lets cover the entire Sahara Desert with Solar Panels! Well, this is a very very bad idea, here’s why.
Although the total produced energy will be 100 times more that the entire planet needs, this project will cause a climate catastrophe. Because most of the energy will return to the environment, the desert will become cold and rainfalls will drastically increase in the Sahara desert, turning it green. This will create massive cyclones into the Atlantic and will turn the Amazon rainforest into a desert. Even though the two regions are thousands kilometers away they are actually linked and Each year, millions tons of sand from the Sahara travels across the Atlantic ocean all the way to the amazon rainforest providing the necessary minerals for the plants there.
20% of world’s oxygen is produced by the Amazon Rainforest and Covering Sahara with solar panels will brake this link which will eventually destroy the so called “lungs of the planet”.
