The balance spring is the heart of a mechanical watch and as such directly responsible for its rate accuracy. Due to extremely strict tolerances, only very few manufactories are capable of producing their own balance springs. Tino Bobe, Manufactory Director of A. Lange & Söhne, explains the process of our in-house balance spring production, that took over 10 years of development.
