This week we received our second Canon C100 and we wanted to test out a few different shotgun mics to see what would be the best fit for us.
Included in this video are a low light test
Some C100 sample footage and a simple audio test using 3 different shotgun microphones
Here are some of our findings.
1. The built in mics on the C100 handle...Very tinny sound, good for reference audio or syncing footage, but otherwise unusable audio
2. Rode Video mic for DSLR's...A good bang for your buck, decent sound and chances are you already have one. It also runs on a 9 volt battery which lasts forever so it will not drain your Canon battery.
3. Rode NTG-2...For a few more dollars you can upgrade to this mic which obviously is the best sounding mic. It runs on either one AA battery, or you can actually run off of the Canon Battery with phantom power. The one downside we did find with this mic is that it doesn't quite fit in the C100 cradle so there would have to be some kind of modification.
So there you have it. Let us know what you decide.
