Ontario's chief medical officer of health, Dr. Kieran Moore made a plea to Ontarians to get vaccinated for COVID-19 on Tuesday with cases seeing a "slow and steady rise" in the province.

Moore said there were 321 new cases of COVID-19 while 100 people are in hospital and 109 are in intensive care units (ICU) due to COVID-19 related illness. Moore also reported that there were two new deaths.

Moore said those who are unvaccinated are eight times more likely to be susceptible to contracting COVID-19 while those over 60 years of age are 15 times more likely to be hospitalized.

With COVID-19 cases on the rise again in the province, business groups are calling for a vaccine certificate system as a means to avoid another lockdown.

Ontario has reported rising positivity rates and more than 300 new COVID-19 cases for the past four days, with more than 400 on Sunday – levels not seen since mid-June.
