i call it the Count Mitsurugi AU
Miles is Edmond Dantes / The Count. On the day he is to marry Phoenix he is betrayed by Kristoph, Manfred, and Gant, and is thrown in jail for crimes he did not take part in. Unbeknownst to him, Kristoph had spread the word that he had died in prison, leaving his loved ones devastated, even causing his father to starve himself to death. He breaks out of prison with the help of another inmate. He is rescued by a band of pirates, and after beating a few in combat, he asks to be dropped off at an island, in which he and the pirates whose lives he spared find a treasure. He and his partners make their way up in the world with the riches they found. Miles finds out how fulfilling the lives of those who betrayed them are, and invites them all to a ball, though he had not expected Phoenix to be there...and neither had Phoenix expected to see him ever again...
