This recipe dates back from the Great Depression and still holds up today. Super easy Oklahoma Onion SmashBurger has few ingredients but tons of flavor. Just follow along Step by Step:

Step 1: Thinly slice one large or two medium onions using a mandolin, grater or sharp knife. Be careful!!!!

Step 2: Using 80% lean, 20% fat ground beef loosely form 3 ounce balls.

Step 3: With heat at 425 place balls down and give a slight press, add salt and lots of onions.

Step 4: Smash burgers pushing the onions into the burger. Get them as thin as possible.

Step 5: After 2-3 minutes and the outside edges start to turncolor, flip the burgers.

Step 6: Add salt, cheese, then place bottom bun first followed by top bun to steam.

Step 7: Remove top bun, using spatula scrape underneath the bottom of the patty/onions and place on the upside down top bun. Then flip right side up.
