An award-winning 1981 documentary that sheds light on the taboo topic of adolescent suicide.
Anna, Sherri, and Michael are adolescents in trouble. Serious trouble. Taking their own lives seemed, at the time, the only way out of their situations. Anna and Sherri survived their suicide attempts. Michael did not. At 18, he hanged himself.
At the time of production, suicide was the second-leading cause of death for people under the age of 25. And for every adolescent that killed themselves, at least 50 more adolescents made one or more suicide attempts. Today, adolescent suicide continues to be a widespread and taboo issue.
Childhood's End takes this important problem out of the unspeakable, and builds a safe place to talk about it. As we hear from Anna, Sherri, and Michael's friends and family, we get an insight into the mind of depressed adolescents, and open up a dialogue about how to address teen suicide.
