The Immigrant Academy was founded in Borås in 2002. Its aim is to make it easier for immigrants with a university education to gain a foothold in the labour market by means of supplemental education, further education and guidance. Thanks to the Immigrant Academy, 70 percent of participants continue on to higher studies or employment.

About widening access:
While the demand for people with a completed higher education increases, employers in Sweden are not tapping into the talent available in the country.

The goal with widening access is that everyone with the ability to benefit from it can see higher education studies as an opportunity.

In 2015, the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) was commissioned by the government to survey Swedish higher education institutions on their work with widening access and increasing participation. This film shows an example of one such successful project in this area.
