In this video I have explained the following: what is a H1-B VISA, what are the types of H1-B VISA, lottery system, Cap exempt non-profit and finally my H1-B journey.
Welcome to Meet Praneet. I am Praneet and am a Computational Biologist / Bioinformatician currently residing in United States. I am here to make videos on immigration, travel, life is US and experiences. Please show your love and support.
I fist came to United States in 2012 on F1 VISA to pursue my Masters in Bioinformatics from Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). During the Masters, I got an excellent opportunity (internship) to work as an intern in Eli Lilly for 6 months. I completed my Masters in 2015 and after that I started working full-time for Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Medical Center on Optional Practical Training (OPT).
H1-B VISA, a non-immigrant VISA is a speciality occupation VISA given by Unites States government to individuals who have at least a Bachelors degree and earn 60k dollars annually as base salary and their job falls under speciality occupation as listed by the government.
Did you Know? H1- B VISA has two types: Profit H1-B vs Non-profit H1-B. In the profit H1-B, one has to go through a lottery system and gets three chances (once per year). However, non-profit H1-B falls under cap-exempt where an individual doesn't have to go through the lottery. Non-profit H1-B can be requested by Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes, Hospitals, Government agencies etc.
I was on a Non-profit H1-B VISA and recently received my Green card under EB1 category.
