Aerial tour of a small part of the abandoned Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant with my Mavic Pro and Litchi. Most everything has been burned down or demolished. Music used with permission by Magic Dragons - Radioactive. It kinda matches the scenes.
Established in 1941 on 10,747 acres, it was the world's largest producer of smokeless powder and propellants for small arms, cannons and rockets. At the height of its operations, it employed about 12,000 people. It produced ordinance for WWII, the Korean and Vietnam wars. The place is now an abandoned Superfund site because of explosives residues, arsenic, lead and mercury, and other toxins in the soil. The Army spent more than $100 million on site cleanup but declined to foot the bill for an estimated $100 million more.
