Short, medium and long-term corruption trends for Syria and neighbouring Middle Eastern countries are presented in this video using scores published by Transparency International in their 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) report.
The video reviews Syria’s performance in addressing corruption in the periods 2012-2023, 2018-2023 and 2022-2023.
Syria’s CPI score recorded an overall significant decline in 2012-2023. The country’s CPI score deteriorated during 2012-2016 and remained relatively steady at a lower-level in 2016-2023.
The rate of change in the country’s CPI score was substantially worse than the rate of change in average Middle Eastern and global CPI scores in 2012-2023.
Syria’s CPI score was substantially less than average Middle Eastern and global CPI scores continuously throughout 2012-2023 and was also the lowest among Middle Eastern country scores during the last eight years. #corruption #syria #middleeast
