Wow! What a feeling. It’s relief. It’s joy. It’s hope. It’s pride... pride that I voted and my vote counted.
As soon as they called it (the election results) this tune automatically started coming out of my mouth. I wrote it as a status update and my sister commented that I should do a cover version of that song. I immediately said to myself ‘why hadn’t you thought of that already’, because this song is so apt for the moment. But you see, when you’ve waited so long, you don’t wanna chance it. You wanna make sure! You will see in the video that I look tired. I barely slept the last few days... the anxiety. But tired as I was I had to oblige.
So here is Pidigori. The progression is based on the mbira song, Nhemamusasa. It’s a lot more paired down compared to what I usually do... just a calabash, bass, a couple of guitars, ngoma, hosho and cocals...but I had to whip something up real quick. In the original, they say “He is gone, he is gone!! No one is too special to die”. But I say, “He is gone, he is gone! No one is too special to be removed”. 🤣🤣 Kubva hakuna member!!!
I couldn’t contain my joy as we were making this video. I hope you can all share in that joy I was feeling. Let’s all go forward with hope and faith! Joe Biden’s grandma said, “Don’t hold on to faith. Spread it!!”
