Nasa scientists celebrate as they receive confirmation that the $1.1bn Juno probe, which launched from Earth five years ago, has successfully entered orbit around Jupiter, which will allow the first in-depth study of the planet to begin.

The Nasa team had a tense wait between the main engine starting to burn and then turning off again; if the engine burned for too long – or not long enough – the mission was at risk of failure. In the end, the burn finished within one second of the perfect duration.
