Divorce rates in the Muslim world have been rising in recent years overall, however, divorce rates used to be much higher than they are now, and this was the case for most of our history. That is because our approach to marriage, family, and to divorce, was different than it is today. We were influenced by Western concepts of marriage, divorce, and the nuclear family, and, having adopted these views, our divorce rates reflected those in the West (i.e., they declined). What should concern us is not the rising divorce rate per se, but rather our whole approach and attitude towards marriage, family, and divorce – we have to return to the healthier paradigm of our past.
