MILLER TOWNSHIP, Ind. (WKRC) - An East Central High School student was killed in a crash on an icy road Thursday. The Dearborn County Sheriff says Brett Fox, 18, died in that crash.
Deputies say Fox was driving north on SR 1 when it appears he hit a patch of ice near Whitaker Lane just before 8 a.m. The pickup truck went off the road and down an embankment and struck a tree and a utility pole. Deputies say the pickup's roof caved in on Fox.
Several emergency crews were called in to help. East Central High School staff members also tried to help.
Fox was a senior at East Central. He was the outside linebacker on the team that won a sectional title. He had just signed a letter of intent to play at Thomas More University.
The superintendent says the district is at a loss and is working with students and teachers to cope with the tragedy.
The sheriff's department sent extra deputies to the school to help support students and staff. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fox family and the students and staff at East Central High School."
