If you need ACA-compliant health coverage outside of open enrollment, you may still be able to to enroll if you experience a qualifying life event that makes you eligible for a special enrollment period.
There are more than a dozen types of qualifying life events that could result in the loss of your existing coverage – or trigger the need for a change to insurance that better fits your needs.
Common qualifying life events include:
- losing employer-sponsored coverage,
- the addition of a family member due to birth or adoption, marriage or divorce,
- a change in income that affects your subsidy eligibilit
- or a permanent move to an area with different health plan availability.
You may also be eligible for new special enrollment period if your income doesn’t exceed 150 percent of the federal poverty level.
