In this video, I'm comparing the Rode NTG directly with the Takstar-SGC600, head to head!!
The price difference would suggest a massive difference between the two, but when you actually listen, it's not quite as clear cut as the prices would suggest.
Yes, the Rode is a great mic and has a lot of facilities to 'shape' the sound, but for someone wanting great audio on a tiny budget, the Takstar is a no brainer. It performs way past its price point.
For this video, I set the camera at the same level for both mics and adjusted the Rode until it kind of matched the Takstar set on +10dB. So the camera preamp noise was pushed right down. In fact, my camera is pretty low in noise when used this way, so any noise that you hear is me fidgeting, or the microphone!
Both are really great microphones, but for different reasons. Both capture good audio and I didn't do any post work on these clips other than normalise and cut any lone, massive peaks.
The Rode is extremely versatile. It can go directly into computer via USB and has gain controls as well as sound 'shaping' filters at the extremes. However, you do pay quite a price for that.
The Takstar is a real budget buy. I'd say a bargain budget buy actually. It has low self noise and really doesn't sound at all bad. It has a 10dB boost and a high pass filter. Perfectly good for vlogging. I'd say that this is one of the least mentioned mics on YouTube given the price and quality.
So if you're on a real tight budget, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Takstar. If you want a premium mic, the Rode is extremely good.
Comparing the sound of them ..... I'll leave that you you, but I found it really surprising to say the least!!!
