Panic attacks (بے چینی اور گھبراہٹ) are feelings of terror that strike suddenly and without warning. These episodes can happen at any time, even while you're sleeping.
People who are having a panic attack may think they are having a heart attack, suffocating, or going insane. During a panic attack, a person's fear and terror are out of proportion to the true situation and may be unrelated to what is going on around them.
The majority of people who have panic attacks have several of the following symptoms:
- A heart that is "racing."
- Feeling dizzy, faint, or weak.
- Numbness or tingling in the hands and fingers.
- A feeling of dread, or of impending doom or death.
- Sweating or having chills.
- Pain in the chest.
- Having trouble breathing.
- Feeling out of control.
Panic attacks are usually brief, lasting less than ten minutes, though some symptoms may stay for longer. People who have had one panic attack are more likely to have more panic attacks in the future than those who have never had one.
A person is diagnosed with panic disorder when attacks occur frequently and there is a fear of more attacks.
