V České republice chová Vydru obrovskou (Pteronura brasiliensis) pouze Zoo Lešná. Na konci října 2020 se sedmileté samici a desetiletému samci narodila 3 mláďata. Odchovat vydry obrovské je extrémně náročné, největší problém představuje vysoká úmrtnost mláďat krátce po narození. Ve videu je vidět nedělně odpočívající samec a hrající si samice s mláďaty.
Vydra obrovská (Pteronura brasiliensis) žije v přírodě od Kolumbie a Guyany po Uruguay a Argentinu u zarostlých břehů řek. Na rozdíl od většiny lasicovitých šelem žije ve skupinách až dvacet jedinců, kteří mezi sebou komunikují nezaměnitelným pronikavým křikem. Společně loví, odpočívají a vzájemně si čistí srst. Samec a samice si zachovávají věrnost po mnoho let a společně také pečují o potomstvo. Březost trvá 9-10 týdnů, samice porodí 2-3 slepá, bezbranná mláďata. Ta zůstávají s rodiči do té doby, než samice opět zabřezne. Pro potravu se potápí do hloubky až 3m, pod vodou vydrží až 73 vteřin, loví ryby, kraby, menší anakondy a kajmany.

In the Czech Republic, only the Lešná Zoo breeds the Giant Otter (Pteronura brasiliensis). At the end of October 2020, 3 pups were born to a seven-year-old female and a ten-year-old male. Breeding giant otters is extremely challenging, the biggest problem is the high mortality of young shortly after birth. The video shows a male resting on Sunday and females playing with their young.
The giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis) lives in the wild from Colombia and Guyana to Uruguay and Argentina on the overgrown banks of rivers. Unlike most weasels, up to twenty individuals live in groups, communicating with each other with unmistakable piercing cries. They hunt together, rest and clean each other's fur. Males and females maintain fidelity for many years and together they also take care of their offspring. Pregnancy lasts 9-10 weeks, females give birth to 2-3 blind, defenseless pups. They stay with their parents until the female becomes pregnant again. For food, they dive to a depth of up to 3 m, last up to 73 seconds underwater, catch fish, crabs, smaller anacondas and caimans.
