(12 May 2016) A royal pageant featuring 900 horses began on Thursday, ahead of a special performance on Sunday in the presence of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II to mark her 90th birthday.
The Royal Windsor Horse Show spans four days and involves more than 1,500 horsemen, dancers and musicians, including from countries as far afield as Oman, Canada, Azerbaijan and Chile.
It took the Azerbaijans two months to get all their horses to Windsor.
Liam Telfer, a member of the British army's Household Cavalry, will be riding behind the royal carriage each night, including Sunday when the Queen herself will be there.
He said he would be sitting a little taller in the saddle when the Queen comes into view.
More than two years in the planning, the show will take place within the estate of Windsor Castle, one of the Queen's residences.
The Queen is well known for her love of horses.
