Video 1: “Untitled,” composed by Cava Menzies, Danielle Scott, Clay Xavier, Kumar Butler
From Cava Menzies: “This is a 2020 original collaboration. This is a hip hop original that the four of us created together. Danielle Scott was my college roommate at Berklee College of Music in the late 90s and she now is a Professor in the Ensemble Department at the college. She specializes in Hip Hop education and does a lot of work to bring awareness to women MCs and producers in that particular genre as well. I was extremely excited to connect her with Kumar Butler (Oakland School of the Arts Audio Production and Engineering Department Chair and member of the band The Seshen) and Clay Xavier (a member of Oakland-based production company - Oaktown Soul).”
Performed by
Danielle Scott, vocals, MC
Clay Xavier, flute

Video 2: “Untitled (MDYMP),” composed by MDYMP students: Hrittik Banerjee, Cesar Barrios Palacios, Christopher Flores, Daphne Gonzalez, Daniela Lopez, Isabela Macias-Fraser, Sara Jimenez Lopez, Diana Ramos, Gian Marco Velasquez, Luca Velasquez
“Untitled,” is a meditative piece in a slow 6/8 cuban Bembe rhythm. It’s a reflection on the dominant and often negative influence the USA has on Latin America. The slow tempo and minor tonality reflect the sadness of this relationship and power imbalance.

Gian Marco Velasquez, congas
