Redstone is located in Colordo's Pitkin County about 240 kilometres (150 miles) southwest of Denver. The town was established in the late 19th century by industrialist John Cleveland Osgood as part of a coal mining enterprise.
Hydraulic jacks, also called powered roof supports, chocks or shields, are placed in a long line, side by side to support the roof of the coalmine. An individual chock can weigh 30 - 40 tonnes and extend to a maximum cutting height of up to 6 metres.
