Prof John McLaughlin and Kiran Bhandal will guide you from an introduction to enteroendocrinology to latest research advancements and future research directions of the field - not to be missed!
The enteroendocrine system is located in the gastrointestinal tract, and comprises the largest endocrine system in the human body. However, its roles and functions remain incompletely understood. It senses nutrients in the gut to control digestion and signals to the brain to control appetite.
The talk will be an overview of the topic, with a presentation of recent research data from Manchester and elsewhere.
Further work is required to better understand the mechanisms involved in appetite control and unlock the therapeutic potential offered by the enteroendocrine system in gastrointestinal disease and in obesity.
