You wanted to ask when you should get your child checked out if they have cold. And there's no harm in having them seen, and best case scenario, you've gained some peace of mind and you can go home with specific advice from the doctor about how you can support your little one through the cold. Basically, when it comes down to it, colds are caused by viruses, and you can't treat viruses. You can manage the symptoms though. And sometimes there are side effects that need to be addressed, like dehydration or difficulty breathing. And so after a doctor performs an exam and asks the parent more specific questions about what they've observed, they can decide if further investigation or treatment is necessary. The treatment plan is going to depend on the baby's age, the actual symptoms they're experiencing, and the severity of the symptoms.

Doctors commonly give parents advice about making sure the baby stays well-hydrated, suctioning out their nostrils to help them breathe more easily, like you can put 2 to 3 drops of saline in each nostril, wait 30 to 60 seconds while the secretions are loosened, and suck it all out with a bulb syringe, because a baby doesn't have any way to clear their nostrils, so this is one thing that a doctor might advise parents to do. They may say to use a cool mist vaporizer, or to do steam sessions in the bathroom where you turn the shower on hot, and sit on the toilet, and just read a book to your child for a while, and let them inhale all of that moist warm air. Sometimes that can help. They may also recommend over-the-counter pain relievers and fever reducers, if necessary. And if they are, they'll tell you what kind you should use and what dose and schedule is appropriate for your baby.
