salmon onigiri 🍙 ~
This is probably one of the easiest japanese snacks you can make! I decided to do a salmon teriyaki filling, but you can easily substitute it for tofu, chicken.. really whatever you’d like! The cooking steps for making teriyaki are basically the same regardless of the protein you use.
salmon
sake
soy sauce
mirin
sugar
short-grain rice
furikake
seaweed strips
how to make the sauce:
The sauce is simply equal parts sake, soy sauce, mirin and sugar. The amount you need will depend on how much you’re cooking, but for 1 salmon filet you’ll need about 3 tablespoons of each. Reserve half to marinade and the rest to cook down into a sauce.
I recommend using short or medium grain rice since it’s more sticky and will be easier to shape. If you’re having trouble with the rice falling apart, you might’ve cooked it with too much water, so keep this in mind!
