Do you know the floss rule yet? When /s/ /l/ /f/ or /z/ is heard at the end of a one syllable word, it’s doubled.
For example:
floSS
griLL
buZZ
puFF
There ARE a few exceptions to this rule like the words IF and PAL, but it still holds true more often than not. And that makes it a helpful trick to teach new readers.
