Despite the receding floodwaters in Assam, the hardships faced by the flood-hit residents continue to mount. The prolonged flooding has significantly disrupted daily life, leaving many people homeless. 60-year-old woman from Morigaon’s Teteliguri village, Lakhi Mandal lost her house in the floods. Mandal has been living on an embankment of the Brahmaputra River with her family and cattle for the past 15 days. She said, “The floodwaters washed away our house. We have been living on an embankment along with our cattle for the last 15 days. We now have no food. Earlier, the Brahmaputra river swallowed all our lands. Now this flood has also destroyed our crops – jute and vegetables. We have many problems. There are 120 families here.” Many other villagers in the Morigaon district are experiencing similar hardships, with their homes, livestock, and crops severely damaged. Jasmat Ali, a villager from the Ghasbari area in the Morigaon district, said that the floodwaters washed away and damaged their houses. He said, “The floodwaters damaged everything. Our cattle, goats, and houses were washed away by the floodwaters. We are facing massive problems. There is still water here.” According to the flood report from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 93 people have died in this year's flood in the state so far, and nearly 5.98 lakh people from 18 districts are still affected by it.
