presents episode 1741 | DR GARY FETTKE
Fructose in fruit vs in HFCS?
-it is all fructose, similar to glucose
-we have studied glucose for a hundred years
-but, metabolism of fructose only clear since 2011
-textbooks Still barely cover this
Sugar: half glucose, half fructose
Fructose, from whatever source is the
same molecule
Fructose: a small amount is converted into glycogen
-vast majority goes to liver for metabolism on first pass…
-small amount goes down the aldehyde pathway
-the alcohol pathway
Another portion goes toward uric acid
production--it is a byproduct of
fructose metabolism
-implications for GOUT
-huge implications for inflammation
pathway
Fructose: another pathway is the production of fat…
-the excess is converted into fat...as in nature
-animals gorge on fruit in fall to fatten up for winter
Some of that pathway goes down into
-small, dense LDL particles
-these sdLDL, when oxidized,
Drive Chronic Inflammation
