We are currently sailing 1200 NM from Opua, New Zealand to Savusavu, Fiji and this is my and Tāiko’s first offshore passage. Day 1 as the wind increased, I was trying to hold it together whilst Garth and Adam were in their element thinking about the delicious shepherd’s pie Elizabeth had made us. Day 2 was spent in the company of the various squalls, Adam was still wearing his beloved sheepskin slippers, and Garth was still happy. Day 3 brought some wind and increased waves as the very large low pressure system that was over New Zealand had caught up to us and we were riding the top of it. Adam was happy because we had wind and could go fast and Garth was happy because he had some of Elizabeth’s delicious banana bread for breakfast with a cup of tea I’d made him. By Day 4, I had settled in and realised that ocean passages are not always as scary as I thought and Tāiko was actually made for this and was handling it well and Adam had finally traded in his slippers for seaboots and Garth…well he was just happy. Now back to the passage!

We try not to make too many plans but we're currently in Fiji and will see where wind and sea will take us next.
