I have always been a big DIY person. I love to make things, instead just buying it outright. Sometimes I end up spending way more money than what the ready to use package costs. But the real fun is actually figuring it out how you can make something out of easy available parts, that suits your needs and it costs lot less. The best part of DIY is the things you learn along the way.
In this video I show how I integrated "8Ch 5.8 Ghz Receiver" and "2S Lipo battery" inside the "7" LCD monitor" to make one compact FPV Ground Station. The ready system costs around $100 or more, and if it as diversity built in you are looking at $150. But if you buy the Monitor, Video Receiver, Battery and some other little things like connectors and switches, you can make yourself entire system for under $60-$65.
Following is the list of parts I used:
1. 7" TFT LCD Monitor (usually marketed as Car backup camera monitor $25-$30)

2. 5.8 Ghz 8 Channel Boscam RC5808 Video Receiver ($15-$20)

3. 1000mAh 2S Lipo Battery ($8-$10)

4. Two SPDT mini Switches (Less than $1)
5. JST-XH Connectors (less than $3)
1 x 2S Male, 1 x 2S Female, 1 x 3S Female, 1 x JST Male
A good soldering station is very helpful. Some heat shrinks to keep everything safe and insulated. And none of the RC related project is done without using Glue Gun :P.
