French President Emmanuel Macron Friday proposed a major boost to the armed forces by over a quarter in coming years. Macron made the announcement in a speech to military personnel addressing new defence strategy in the wake of the Ukraine conflict.
The next seven-year budget would increase to €413bn from 2024-30, up from €295bn. France has stepped up its military aid for Ukraine in recent weeks, with plans to send AMX-10 RC "light combat tanks".
