This NC lighthouse is in a class all by itself as it has a combination of ship ladder steps instead of the usual lighthouse spiral steps. 131 of these steps to climb in all. Built is 1958 with the tower itself only being 153 feet tall, it is on a rise placing it an extra 16 feet in height than what it actually is. It is charted at 169 feet above the water. The lighthouse is on Coast Guard Station and they still maintain the upkeep of the lights but in 2004 the lighthouse and surrounding property was given to the town of Caswell Beach.
