On this trip I went to Quilotoa Crater and met an indigenous family in Ecuador! It was an amazing day trip from Quito. I booked this tour with Ecuatraveling and it was fantastic, I highly recommend them!
In the video I enter a home of indigenous people. They might seem poor to us, but they're not. They choose to live this life and value different things from our idea of modern society. You will also see some guinea pigs running around on the floor in the house. This is their tradition, and the guinea pigs serve a purpose. They warm the house and keep other animals away. Yes, the people here eat them, but usually for special occasions only. They are highly valued.
Quilotoa Lake Crater is a mesmerizing place. The walk down to the crater takes about 30 minutes, and going up is steep. I opted to rent a mule going back up. The views are spectacular.
The crater was formed just 600 years ago.
