This guy is a 1940 National Collegian and I’ve just gone through it — neck reset, stabilization inside, a little mild soldering of the body, a fret level/dress, new bone (compensated) saddle, replacement tuners (period), and setup work.
It’s, of course, a killer-sounding tin can extravaganza after repairs — loud and punchy and up-front. The neck finish is original but the body was resprayed rattlecan style at some point. It’s neat — a brown-to-redburst with painted “binding” on the upper edge. It has just enough normal wear and tear to make it endearing and fun. The pickguard is original, too.
