In this video I wanna talk about one crazy easter egg in Alien Covenant that can change everything about the story. When I first saw Alien Covenant I felt like the Planet 4 was too good to simply appear out of nowhere. Daniels says to Oram that we don’t what’s up there and that the planet with such high living conditions should have been discovered earlier.
When I was rewatching Alien Covenant and some deleted scenes, I found a few proofs of the theory that David used Shaw to trick the crew to visit the planet 4 and that the signal that the ship received was intentionally made by David.
Atlantis by Audionautix ([ Ссылка ]) is part of the YouTube Audio Library ([ Ссылка ]...) and it's licensed under a Creative Commons license ([ Ссылка ]...).
I’m not sure if this theory is true or not but it may seem plausible considering these 2 details: one deleted scene and one crazy easter egg that only appears for a few seconds.
First let’s talks about one deleted scenes that is called crossing the plaza. The scene shows how the covenant crew crosses the arena on their way to the temple. As they follow david, they pass by this giant hole and launch a light ball, inside we can see a few juggernauts without any exterior damage. This may seem like a completely unimportant detail but it actually changes many things that we assumed.
Because these juggernaut ships are there, it means that David wasn’t a prisoner on the planet as the crew is ment to believe.
David could travel to other planets and potentially cause the energy blast that damaged the ship at the beginning of the movie.
But the really crazy easter egg is when Tenesse receives the visual transmision.
If you slow down the video, you can actually notice Shaw’s face. and for some reason, her month is open and the head positioned in a very weird manner. In fact, the image in the transmission is extremely similar to what is left from Shaw’s head in David’s lab. One thing is for sure, on the transmission Shaw is clearly in distress.
When they bring the helmet inside, we’re unable to see any clear picture, instead we hear a song “Country Road” and probably many people assumed that Shaw was signing it.
But that may not be true, since we only hear a rythm not the actual voice.
So what actually happened and how do we explain this transmission.
When the covenant crew discovers crushed juggernaut, they find a hologram that they believe is the original source of transmission. Mainly because on the hologram they also hear County road song and dr Shaw is signing it. If fact, my theory is that the distress signal and hologram in the crashed juggernaut are two different things. This would explain the creepy visual and how David trapped the covenant crew.
This hologram was taken at the time when the juggernauts was still functioning since Shaw is completely fine and there was no particular purpose to the hologram.
But the transmission signal received in space was actually recorder in David’s lab specifically to lure the passing ship to the planet 4. He recorded it while vivisecting Shaw, that's why the face in the transmission is so similar to what we find in the lab. And the song that we hear is actually performed by David himself. As I said before we cannot clearly hear if it’s a male or female voice and it’s actually really ironic that I automatically assumed that the song was perfomed by a human not an android.
We’ve seen David, repeating and imitating humans before, by trying to kiss Daniels, selecting and quoting his favourite movie and trying to be a creator just like humans. So it wouldn’t surprise me if David would remember Shaw’s favorite song and sing it while operating her, given his evil nature.
I think this is what actually happened because this theory goes along with an important theme of the last 2 alien movies which is music and whether androids are allowed to create it. It is really ironic that the covenant crew perceived a song performed by and android as a signal from humans.
If you think about it, in Prometheus, David was able to trick the ship by immitating the flute melody performed by the Engineer. So from the script writing point of view, it would make perfect sense if David used music, something inherently human, to lure the covenant crew into a trap.
In the Novel, as the Covenant approaches Planet 4, they receive Shaw's transmission. Tennessee likens it to the song of the sirens in Homer's Odyssey, luring sailors to their doom.
