They chose to present the back first for a reason: it's the view that's unique to the hatchback. Because the hatch you see here is also an RS hybrid, the front end is identical to the City sedan, specifically the top-of-the-line City RS e:HEV.

The day's slogan is "Outshine all else," and the automated LED headlamps are the standout feature. The RS profile has a gloss black front grille and "eyebrows," black honeycomb mesh, carbon-pattern trim on the front lip, and sportier "toothed" front fog light garnish, in addition to the bright eyes. LEDs are also used in the fog lamps. The H emblem is blue-tinged for hybrids, and there's an RS insignia on the grille.

The 16-inch dual-tone alloys on the sedan City RS e:HEV, which are paired with 185/55 tyres, appear to be comparable to the wheels pictured above. On the same side as the "RS" and "e:HEV" logos, the rear end features double-strip LED signatures.

There is one more thing. It could just be us, but the red paint here appears to be a little different than HM's regular Passion Red Pearl, which appears slightly orangey in the daylight. In Thailand, the City Hatchback is available in Ignite Red Metallic, a more cherry-like red tint — might this be a new color for Malaysia?

Here's a quick rundown of what you may expect. The is the hatchback sibling of the fifth-generation City, and in our region, it effectively replaces the third-generation Jazz. This is a City without a boot, similar to how our Toyota Yaris is a "Vios Hatchback."

It's 204 mm shorter than the RS sedan at 4,349 mm, but it's 21 mm taller at 1,488 mm. The width and wheelbase remain unchanged at 1,748 mm and 2,589 mm, respectively. The City Hatch is longer, broader, and taller than the Jazz it replaces. The Jazz has a 59-millimeter shorter wheelbase.

The City Hatch is available in Thailand as an e:HEV hybrid as an eco car. The latter has a CVT and a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo engine (122 PS/173 Nm). This model does not have to comply with environmental regulations in Indonesia (the Brio is Honda's LCGC offering), therefore it has a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine with 121 PS and 145 Nm. Our City's engine is a DOHC i-VTEC unit, but Indonesians get a six-speed manual transmission in addition to the CVT.

The intelligent multi-mode drive (i-MMD) powertrain in the hybrid replaces the previous generation's i-DCD powertrain. A 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle DOHC i-VTEC four-cylinder engine with 98 PS and 127 Nm, as well as two motors, make up the system. With the help of an integrated electric motor that also serves as a starter, the engine primarily functions as a generator.

The wheels are driven by a larger second motor that produces 108 PS and 253 Nm. Because the engine is more efficient than the motor at high speeds, it can offer direct drive. The hybrid sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 173 km/h, with a claimed fuel consumption of 3.77 litres per 100 km, or 26.5 km/l.

Despite the fact that all of the teasers so far have been of the e:HEV hybrid – possibly due to its sportier RS appearance – we expect Malaysia to get the City Hatchback with the 1.5L NA engine and CVT, just like the non-hybrid City sedan.
