As the name indicates it involves a light chamber where affected skin areas are exposed. This is an advanced treatment. Earlier Sunlight exposure was used for the treatment. The effect of UVB is similar to sunlight.

A big advantage of NBUVB is that it is safe even for children. In the case of psoriasis, this treatment is considered when the medication does not help. It is quite effective in managing the cells production and patches of psoriasis.

For vitiligo, light therapy has emerged as a great technique to stimulate melanocytes to produce melanin in the areas affected by vitiligo. It also helps in preventing the spread of the white patches.

As UVB can cause a certain degree of tanning, one is recommended to apply a good sunscreen before starting the procedure. This treatment has no side-effects but wearing protective goggles is a must. 311nm is the safest & most effective wavelength. This treatment is effective for many skin diseases because the UVB shuts down the overactive immune cells.
