One of my favorite Call of Duty games. The campaign is really well done and it's one of the most difficult. The enemies often have infinite respawns until you hit a trigger, and they will throw grenades right on you if they can't shoot at you. Speed running it means finding the most efficient routes that don't lead to huge deaths. I just kept trying to get a complete run. A lot of deaths are just bad luck or dumb mistakes. I practiced the early levels a lot and just winged it near the end. There's a lot of room for improvement, but I'm glad I got a complete run.
There's a decent attempt at historical accuracy which is very cool. The first mission is based on a real raid that alerted japan and made them ramp up defenses and change tactics. The second and third mission they shelled the beaches and advanced to take the airfield. Apparently there was criticism for the cost of taking that island since it took so much and yielded next to nothing. An example of Japan willing to fight to the death for every inch of territory. The Reznov sniping mission is fiction, but the Soviet Union rushing to take Berlin, being brutal and merciless, is real. Overall both sides of the campaign show a good depiction of the later stages of the war. The voice acting from Gary Oldman as Reznov is top notch. The music is great, the guns feel good, and it's linear but most of the battles are in open areas where you can approach it however you want. Normally I hate infinitely respawning enemies and banzai attackers around every corner, but it serves the theme, and the difficulty also adds to the narrative. Everyone loves this game for inventing zombies, but the campaign is one of the greatest, and I have so many memories with the multiplayer.
It keeps your sprint momentum when you jump, and people can bunny hop in it I think, but I have no clue so I just sprint and jump everywhere. Drop shots or going prone while shooting is not just good in multiplayer, I use it a lot. Certain guns affect your speed, smgs and pistols move faster than rifles or mgs. I try to use enemy smgs because ammo is limited, speed, and their accuracy/fire rate. You get invincibility frames when doing the melee counter animation. The 4th mission the sniping level with Reznov has the only skip I know about. You can jump out of bounds and trigger the general somehow, skipping most of the level. Almost all of the deaths are mistakes by me, but some of them are just bad luck. It's really sloppy but it took a long time to just get a complete run. Sometimes the npc's get stuck and it adds time or softlocks the level. You can technically control if they throw grenades at you or not but more often than not it's random based on the ai. The lack of checkpoints on certain levels are brutal.
