Potential energy is energy that is stored in an object and can be dangerous to workers when released unexpectedly. This video is a helpful training tool that describes sources of potential energy in your workplace, and illustrates ways to control potential energy to reduce the risk to workers.
Employers are responsible for ensuring sources of potential energy are identified, controlled, blocked, or released and verified to be in a zero energy state before working on or around the equipment.
