The Fresno County Coroner stated on Thursday that the lion which killed a volunteer had likely escaped by prying its cage open with its paw. The coroner stated that the volunteer, Dianna Hanson, had not suffered because the lion broke her neck with one swipe of its paw. Sheriffs shot the lion dead in an attempt to save Hanson, but it was too late. Representatives of the California Department of Fish and Game said that Wednesday's attack was an anomaly, because in order to successfully apply for a permit, the park must implement procedures that keep human-animal interaction to a minimum.
