Restless leg syndrome (RLS), also sometimes referred to as Willis Ekbom disease, can cause abnormal or uncomfortable sensations in the legs. This can then create an irresistible urge to move the legs and/or arms, or when either sitting or lie down.
Restless leg syndrome may cause sleep disturbance as it can significantly disrupt sleep, which may interfere with daily activities and affect quality of life.
RLS may also be associated with another, more common condition called periodic limb movement of sleep, which causes the legs to twitch and kick, possibly throughout the night, while you sleep.
