The Canon EOS Rebel was the original entry-level 35mm SLR in the Canon EOS Rebel lineup. This camera, with spokesman and contemporary heartthrob Andre Agassi, introduced the world to the slogan "the only thing that focuses faster is the human eye." With this camera, Canon kicked off its most successful and profitable camera lineup, the Rebel series.
Quaint, retro, and antiquated by today's standards, the Canon EOS Rebel is still a capable entry-level camera that can serve as a good learning or carrying around camera if you can live with the compromises. Being an entry-level camera, it lacks many of the refinements found in higher-spec cameras. Also, it is designed to be used primarily in automatic mode. It can function as a good student camera, though that's not its primary design nor its strong suit.
