Abstract:
Traffic congestion is an important cause of pollution and economic loss. If unchecked, these problems are expected to increase, especially in dense cities. Urban traffic control and coordination can address this challenge and improve efficiency, fuel consumption, and safety. Wireless communication has an important role to play, both to coordinate vehicles and to monitor and adjust traffic flows. In this presentation, I will discuss our recent work on microscopic and macroscopic traffic control, performed in collaboration across different groups at the Department of Signals and Systems at Chalmers University of Technology. I will highlight the challenges in wireless communication and their interaction with sensing and control.
