Um Ali, a simple traditional Egyptian dessert; made in this recipe with puff pastry, 2 cups milk, nuts, cream, desiccated coconut and honey (instead of sugar).
Directions for simple Um Ali with puff pastry:
Bake the puff pastry until golden brown. Heat 2 cups milk and then mix with honey once off the flame. When the puffs are ready, crush and crumble them and mix in some nuts of your choice. Sprinkle 2 tbsp of desiccated coconut on top. Then pour the milk mixture and let it soak for a few minutes. Spread a tin of cream on top and bake for 200°C for 10 minutes. Heat from the top during the last 5 minutes to brown the cream a bit. You can serve the Um Ali hot or cold.
