A local terrorism expert worries the bombings in Boston could be the beginning of a new wave of terrorist attacks. Former FBI Terrorism Intelligence Specialist Steve Denny says the lack of any claim for the bombings combined with possible ties to organized jihadists could signal a new level of coordination by terrorists in the U.S..
Denny is part owner of Carolina Guns Gear on Sweeten Creek Road in Asheville. He has 17 years experience as a special agent with the Terrorism Task Force. He investigated and helped capture The Blind Sheik, the terrorist involved in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. He worked on the Unibomber and Murrah Federal building bombings. He was also at the World Trade Center on 9-11 and was nearly killed with other task force members.
The intelligence expert says the U.S. government is behind in keeping up with the evolution of terrorism and hasn't dedicated enough resources to hunting down people wishing to attack the country. He says he left the FBI after repeatedly being ignored by upper management. Denny says if the bombers in Boston are tied to foreign fundamentalists and were radicalized in the U.S., the threat of more attacks is imminent.
