There are so many situations in which you cannot have a native local installation of Linux on your machine, like if your machine comes with Windows pre-installed and wiping it out eliminates the warranty, your organization doesn’t allow it to be installed on your system, or you just like Windows desktop more than Linux. Does this mean that you cannot use Linux and the freedom it brings for scientific computing? Of course not. There are some workarounds on this issue, one of the best of which is the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). Let’s see how it works and how we can get started on it.
