This song has LONG fascinated me. It seems light years ahead of its time. Released in 1963, it peaked to number 2 on the U.S Billboard charts. Researching the recorsing is difficult. It appears, however, "The Jaynetts" were an improvised studio group with as many as 20 girls contributing to the marvelous vocals and "feel" of the recording.
Wayne Jancik, in his One Hit Wonders, gives a good summary:
"'Sally, Go 'Round the Roses' is a timeless wonder of a song, featuring an odd, hypnotic rhythm and soft voices seductively rising and falling."
