Ulli theeyal (ഉള്ളി തീയൽ), a tangy and spicy curry is a traditional Kerala side dish made with shallots or pearl onion or small onion cooked in roasted and ground coconut paste, tamarind pulp and other spices. The roasted coconut and spices gives the curry a distinct flavour and a nice dark brown colour. The distinctive flavor of shallots and coconut oil in the curry makes it one of the best accompaniments to hot rice.
