Hadleigh is a man who seemingly has everything: wealth, status, and a beautiful wife. But the man who has everything has more to lose than most. When Hadleigh's wife mysteriously disappears, is it the beginning of the end?
(Possible plot-spoilers below)
James, who is a board member of a merchant bank, discovers at a special meeting that the current chairman, Sir Geoffrey Osborne, is planning to retire at some stage in the next few years and wants James to take over. Sir Geoffrey makes it plain that James would need to significantly improve his share holding. Sir Richard arranges a million pound loan (£6.3M in today's money - putting Melford as security in the process) but a run on the pound threatens to completely ruin Hadleigh.
First broadcast March 5th 1976.

The final episode of S4 - and of the whole programme - features a version with commentary by Gerald Harper and others involved in the making of the programme, giving insights and stories along the way. I plan to upload both versions when the time comes - which I think will be around early Feb 2024.
Also, there is a video documentary made in 2009 about Hadleigh called "The Lonely Man on the Hill", which again features Gerald Harper and others involved in the programme. I'll upload this after the present series has completed.
